City Planning Commission Approves Zoning Changes to Implement Early Notification System

At its March 26 meeting, the City Planning Commission (CPC) voted to revise the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance (CZO) to implement portions of its proposed Neighborhood Participation Plan (NPP). City Council has to vote its final approval, which should take place by early May.

City Planning’s NPP is basically the Early Notification System (ENS) that is called for in the NOLA CPP Model. The NPP would improve neighborhood and adjacent residents’ notification of proposed projects including: zoning changes, conditional use requests, zoning variances in their community, and related Planning Commission actions. It would also give neighborhoods and residents an opportunity to meet with private developers and/or public sector agencies that are proposing projects prior to the projects being submitted to CPC.

The proposed Zoning Ordinance changes can be found in the CPC staff report. You can view the full NPP at this link, and additional information can be found on the City Planning Commission’s NPP website.
