City Planning Commission Removes Executive Director

At today’s Operational Committee meeting, the New Orleans City Planning Commission vote 7 to 1 to remove Yolanda Rodriguez as Executive Director. The City Planning Commission wanted to have Deputy Director Leslie Alley serve as the temporary City Planning Director, but she stated that she did not want to serve in any official capacity as Interim Executive Director. The City Planning Commission then approved a resolution to remove Yolanda Rodriguez, but they did not appoint a temporary director, leaving the duties to be picked up by the rest of the staff.

Craig Mitchell (Chair), Kelly Brown (Vice-Chair), Nolan Marshall III, Kyle Wedberg, Joseph Williams, Pamela Bryan, and Robert Steeg all voted in favor of removing Ms. Rodriguez. Royce Duplessis was opposed and Lois Carlos-Lawrence was absent. Despite the staggered 9-year terms, 6 of the 9 Planning Commissioners have been appointed by Mayor Landrieu in his 3+ years in office. The remaining three were appointed by former Mayor Nagin. More information can be found at WWLTV: http://www.wwltv.com/news/Director-of-City-Planning-fired-211057121.html
